Common Documents for Scholarships

Below is a list of the most probable documents you will be asked for when applying for scholarships:

Application Form

Fill out all the spaces on the application form fully and correctly. Besides, you must first be eligible to do so. Because most scholarships are limited to a particular group of students, they may be only for women, seniors from a particular high school, or college students from a given state.

Passport Copy/Identity Proof

Passport must remain valid for six months after your exit. It needs a copy of the front page of the passport-the page featuring your picture and personal information. You may also be required to courier other identity proofs apart from a copy of your passport, depending on the requisites of the particular scholarship you are applying for.

Transcripts and Diplomas

Send in transcripts from the university where you have last been attending classes or graduated. This document has to bear the official stamp and signature of your faculty or your school. The transcript of records is a photocopy paper having all your courses, together with the number of credits and grades you have obtained for each one.

Statement of Purpose/Letter of Motivation

One of the most important items in the scholarship application checklist, SOP, is an approximately 400-word document explaining why you applied to this degree program and how it aligns with your future academic and professional aspirations. Being truthful and not exaggerating in this motivational statement or letter is crucial. Moreover, you should state a little bit about your strengths and how they relate to your chosen degree.

Letter of Recommendation

Recommendation letters will be accepted only from those who may be instructors or recommenders that could include employers or individuals who supervised your work (volunteer work counts as well). This letter gives the scholarship sponsor information on your skills, background, motivation for the degree program and/or university that you have selected. Madam/Sir, another formal way would be a letter of intent.

Curriculum Vitae/Resume

They request all of your accomplishments, interests, hobbies, social skills, and even your professional experience.

Standardized Test Scores

Scores on tests such as SAT, ACT, GRE, or GPA could be considered by the universities in deciding who receives the scholarship. High scores are the presidency in most cases, but the scholarship offer is determined systematically on consideration of all valid documentations.

Additional Documents

  • Essay- An eloquent scholarship essay will help you express your talents, and it will lend a window to the selection committee to perceive the real person behind the application. The instructions should be meticulously observed; do not exceed the word count by more than a few words.
  • Portfolio- A scholarship portfolio is an enlarged resume of your extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and so forth. A portfolio must be prepared when a student applies for studies in art and design or a related discipline; it should contain projects and artwork.
  • Bank Statements- Bank statements are monthly statements from banks given to their account holders. These statements include all deposits, transfers, and withdrawals during the statement period. Some scholarship offices need bank statements to confirm the level of tuition fees that need to be paid and/or the sum to be shown on the bank statement.

Before Submission of Scholarship Application

Before you begin clicking on send buttons, here are some points to consider:

  • Proof-read your application form, with all the accompanying documents, for any spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
  • It is unwise to go over the word count for any part of the application or for any document you may be requested to prepare.
  • Only submit documentation requested.
  • Make sure a complete copy of the application is made for your records prior to sending it out.
  • Be careful not to miss the deadline and note the definitive date by which you must provide all of the needed documents.
